Africade (2017)
Commissioned by the African Studies Gallery.
Co-curated with Ben Myres and Idit Toledano.
Detailed press release, including pictures, can be accessed HERE.
As far as we know, this is the first ever exhibition that focuses entirely on video games from Africa (not including game festivals inside the continent itself). Africade compiles 7 video from Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco and South
Africa.
The games on display operate in various media – board, mobile, VR, and computer games. They encapsulate a diversity of inspirations and influences and include local aesthetics and pan-African myths, as well as Occidental and Oriental images and design traditions.
